Diplomová práce se zabývá vágními nenumerickými kvantifikátory v angličtině, obecně se tedy týká studia vágního jazyka. Tato práce je založena na výzkumu Jarmily Tárnyikové, která jej popsala v článku ?Bags of Talent, a Touch of Panic, and a Bit of Luck: The Case Study of Non-Numerical Vague Quantifiers? z roku 2010. S pomocí Britského národního korpusu (British National Corpus) jsou zkoumání podrobeny vágní nenumerické kvantifikátory vyjadřující malou kvantitu, které se objevují v přeneseném smyslu. Anglické příklady jsou potom porovnány s etymologicky příbuznými řetězci českých vágních nenumerických kvantifikátorů. Sběr dat pro českou část výzkumu je proveden v Českém národním korpusu. Vybraná data jsou detailně porovnána v následujících oblastech: frekvence výskytu, alternace paradigmatu, různorodost substantiv v kolokacích, negace, premodifikace. Srovnání ukazuje lingvistické i kulturní podobnosti a rozdíly v užití vágních nenumerických kvantifikátorů v angličtině a češtině.The thesis deals with vague non-numerical quantifiers in English which belong to the wider study field of vague language. The work is based on the research described in the article ?Bags of Talent, a Touch of Panic, and a Bit of Luck: The Case Study of Non-numerical Vague Quantifiers? by Jarmila Tárnyiková in 2010. Vague non-numerical quantifiers expressing low quantity in their figurative meaning are examined with the help of the British National Corpus. Collected English samples are compared with etymologically related chains of Czech vague non-numerical quantifiers. The Czech part of the research is conducted in Czech National Corpus (Český národní korpus). Selected data are compared in the following perspectives: frequency of occurrence, paradigmatic alternations, diversity of nominal collocates, negation, and premodification. The comparison demonstrates cross-linguistic and cross-cultural similarities and differences in the usage of non-numerical vague quanifiers in English and Czech.
