Institucionální struktura Evropské unie je problematikou nejen aktuální, ale také komplikovanou. Evropská komise, jakožto jedna z předních institucí Unie, je pak především orgánem, který hájí zájmy Evropské unie jako celku a mezi ostatními orgány Unie vyniká svou supranacionalitou. V diplomové práci na téma Evropská komise, její význam a funkce je Komise představena nejprve v historickém kontextu, následně je objasněna její struktura a fungování. Největší pozornost je věnována pravomocem Komise. Nejsou opomněny dopady Lisabonské smlouvy související s Komisí. Na rozsudcích Soudního dvora Evropské unie jsou pak demonstrovány některé z pravomocí Komise.The institutional structure of the European Union is an issue not only current, but also complicated. European Commission as one of the leading institutions of the Union, is then especially a body representing the interests of the EU as a whole and within other EU institutions distinguishes by its supranationality. In this master thesis with its topic 'European Commission, its importance and function' is the Commission introduced first in a historical context, subsequently clarified its structure and functioning. Most attention is paid to the powers of the Commission. Then are described impacts of the Lisbon Treaty associated with Commission. Judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union are demonstrating some of the powers of the Commission.
