Cílem práce je představit chicanskou kulturu prostřednictvím přehledu jejího historického a literárního vývoje a rovněž pomocí románu Dům v Mangové ulici Sandry Cisneros. Jednotlivé kapitoly se zaměřují na tři role, které tato autorka představuje: 1) role chicanky a její místo ve většinové společnosti Spojených států amerických, 2) role ženy a její postavení v patriarchální komunitě, 3) role spisovatelky a její poslání.The aim of this thesis is to introduce the Chicano culture via an overview of its historical and literary development and also via Sandra Cisneros? novel The House on Mango Street. The individual chapters focus on the three roles that are represented by this author: 1) the role of a Chicana and her place in the society of the United States of America, 2) the role of a women and her position in the patriarchal community, 3) the role of a writer and her mission.
