Tato práce si klade za cíl osvětit funkční postavení fantastiky v díle Richarda Weinera, konkrétně v jeho povídce Prázdná židle. V jednotlivých kapitolách jsou postupně analyzovány kategorie vypravěče, postav, prostoru a času ? důraz je přitom kladen na vysledování rozsahu, v jakém fantastika tyto kategorie modifikuje. Fantastika v Prázdné židli zároveň funguje jako sjednocující gesto, které spojuje veškeré aspekty díla a vytváří jeho finální účinek ? váhání, jež má ve čtenáři vyvolat úděs.The goal of this thesis is explaining functional status of fantastic in the work of Richard Weiner, in particular in his short story The Empty Chair. In each chapter categories of narrator, characters, space and time are analyzed ? the focus is on spotting the extent in which fantastic modifies these categories. Fantastic in The Empty Chair also works as unifying gesture that associates all the aspects of the piece whilst creating its final impact ? hesitation that is supposed to induce terror in the reader.
