Cílem této práce je charakteristika vybraných problémů kmene Kathkari v indické oblasti Panvel a představení sociální práce kongregace The Bethany Society reagující na tyto problémy, a to zejména ve vesnici Khanavala vádí. Omezený přístup ke vzdělání snižuje možnosti uplatnění se na trhu práce. Kathkari pak musí vykonávat nekvalifikovaná povolání, jako jsou zemědělské práce, vykládání zboží z nákladních automobilů nebo práce v cihelnách, za kterou musí rodiny migrovat, což negativně ovlivňuje školní docházku dětí. Sociální práci směřuje The Bethany Society zejména k ženám zakládáním svépomocných skupin a výukou výroby přírodní medicíny. The Bethany Convent School je první soukromou školou, která přijala kathkarijské studenty, čtrnáct z nich právě z vesnice Khanavala vádí. Kathkarijské děti jsou druhou cílovou skupinou, které se The Bethany Society věnuje.The aim of this work is to characterize selected problems of the Indian tribe Kathkaris in Panvel area. It also characterizes intervention of social work of The Bethany Sisters Society with this tribe. Limited access to education reduces the possibilities of Kathkaris people to get into labour market. There are only few job opportunities for Katkharis such as farm labour, unloading goods from trucks or work in the brickyards. These works do not require special skills neither education. Migration is necessary for work in brickyards which are well known for employing minors and children. Of course, the child labour in essence increases a number of uneducated children. Social work of The Bethany Sisters Society is focused on women by setting up self-help groups. It is the most useful service provided there. The Bethany Sisters teach them for instance how to grow and use herbal medicine. The Bethany Convent School is the first private school accepting students of Kathkaris, 14 of the total number of students are coming from the village Khanavala wadi. Second target group of The Bethany Society social intervention are children of Kathakris tribe.
