Nástup modernity bezesporu radikálně transformoval podobu společnosti jako takové. V této práci se budeme podrobněji zabývat společenským fenoménem velkoměsta spolu s jeho zasazením do kontextu modernizace a rovněž důsledky urbanizačních procesů z pohledu významných sociologů města, jimiž jsou Georg Simmel, Walter Benjamin, autoři Chicagské školy, především pak Luis Wirth, dále Manuel Castells a Richard Sennett. Jejich pojetí důsledků urbanizačních procesů analyzujeme v kontextu tří dimenzí modernity podle Austina Harringtona. Na základně této analýzy zjišťujeme, jak jsou jednotlivé dimenze zastoupeny právě v dílech uvedených autorů. Výsledky analýzy ukazují, že některé jevy autoři zcela opomíjejí. Můžeme říci, že další studie zabývající se těmito absentujícími fenomény by byly přínosné.The advent of modernity undoubtedly radically transforms society as a form. In this work we will further examine the social phenomenon of metropolis along with its set in the context of modernization and urbanization processes and also we will elaborate the consequences from the perspective of major urban sociologist, namely Georg Simmel, the authors of the Chicago school, especially Luis Wirth, as well as Manuel Castells and Richard Sennett. Their conception of the consequences of the urbanization are analyzed in the contect of Austin Harrington´s dimension of modernity. At the base of this analysis, we see how each dimension is represented in works of mentioned authors. Analysis results show that some phenomenon are completely ignored by authors. We can say that further studies of this phenomenon could be contributive.
