Ve čtyřech kapitolách řeší autorka problematiku umírání v souvislosti s otázkou ctnosti statečnosti. Vztah mezi nimi hledá nejprve v Bibli, zvlášť ve Starém a zvlášť v Novém zákoně. Všímá si především příběhů biblických postav, které byly v ohrožení života, prorockých textů, modliteb žalmů a mudroslovné literatury. V Novém zákoně hledá autorka novost evangelní zvěsti o smrti skrze postavu Ježíše Krista a přijetí tohoto evangelia apoštolem Pavlem. Třetí kapitola sleduje vývoj postoje církve k umírání na vybraných příkladech křesťanských mučedníků, církevních otců a dokumentů II. vatikánského koncilu a dokumentů pozdějších. Čtvrtá kapitola začíná četbou textů eschatologické teologie. Pokračuje svědectvím dvou mladých lidí, kteří zemřeli na nevyléčitelnou nemoc a projevovali zjevné známky statečnosti vůči vlastní smrti. Centrem kapitoly je pojednání o chápání smrti v postmoderní době a o smrti jako procesu. Na to navazuje přiblížení paliativní a hospicové péče, jež chtějí napomáhat důstojnému umírání. Závěr čtvrté kapitoly popisuje stav a potřeby člověka, který si je vědom blízké smrti.The work comprises four chapters, in which the author solves the problems of dying under the aspect of the virtue of courage. First of all, she looks for the connection between them both in the Old and the New Testament of the Bible. Above all, she examines the stories of biblical characters whose lives were endangered, she looks at prophetic texts, psalm prayers and sapiential literature. In the New Testament the author searches for the new quality of the evangelical view of death, brought by Jesus Christ, and analyzes the way, how it was accepted and understood by the apostle Paul. Chapter three traces the evolution of the approach of the church to the problems of dying; it reflects some examples of Christian martyrs, Fathers of the Church, documents of the Second Vatican Council and later documents. Chapter four begins with lecture of texts of eschatological theology. It continues with a testimony of two young people, who died of an incurable disease and showed apparent signs of courage with respect to their death. The middle of the chapter is concerned with the understanding of death in the postmodern society and with death as a process. It continues with showing the palliative and hospice care, which both try to help people to die with dignity. The conclusion of chapter four describes the state and needs of people, who know about the imminence of his death.
