Partially negative" adverbs [rukopis] / Jana Pargačová. -- 2009. -- 78 s. + 1 CD. -- Abstrakt: Tato diplomová práce se zabývá anglickými {\clq}qčástečně zápornými`` příslovci hardly, scarcely, barely a rarely. Jelikož je význam těchto slov velice komplexní a často nejasný, zaměřila jsem se na jejich formální rysy. Tato práce napřed uvádí čtenáře do problematiky: představuje negaci v angličtině, její typické rysy a formy, a následně ji srovnává se záporem v češtině. Další kapitola se zabývá polaritou a obecnými pravidly, které pomáhají rozlišit mezi větami kladnými a zápornými. Na jejich základě jsou vybrána kritéria, podle kterých jsou následně daná příslovce zkoumána. Třetí kapitola se zabývá zápornými příslovci v angličtině, přičemž věnuje zvýšenou pozornost výrazům {\clq}qčástečně záporným``, a také diskutuje a polemizuje o jejich terminologiích, jak je udávají jednotliví autoři. Poslední a nejrozsáhlejší část této práce je věnována samotnému výzkumu. Ten je založen na hledání daných slov v kombinaci s kritérii nalezenými v druhé kapitole, a to v datech Britského Národního Korpusu. Pro vymezení {\clq}qideálních`` příkladů polarit bylo napřed prošetřeno often jako prototyp kladného příslovce, a never zastupující 100%ně záporné příslovce. Stejným způsobem jsou pak zkoumána i ``částečně záporná'q adverbia hardly, scarcely, barely a rarely, jejichž výsledky vykazují velkou podobnost s never (tj. v rozmezí 87% - 97%), avšak výzkum také prokazuje jejich nepříliš vysokou frekvenci v užití.. -- Abstrakt: The thesis deals with the ``partially negative'q English adverbs hardly, scarcely, barely and rarely. Since the meaning of these words is very complex and often unclear, I focused on their formal features. First of all, the work introduces the problematics to the reader: it presents negation in English, its typical features and forms, and finally compares it to negation in Czech. The next part deals with polarity and the general rules which help to distinguish between the positive and the negative clauses. On that basis, the criteria are chosen, which are then applied to the adverbs in order to examine them.. The third part discusses the negative adverbs in English, paying special attention to the ``partially negative'q expressions, but it also discusses the definitions provided by the individual authors. The last and most extent part of the thesis is devoted to the actual research. This one is based on searching the expressions throughout the BNC in combination with the chosen criteria. To define the ``best cases'q of the two polarities, often - as a prototype of the positive adverb - and never - representing the 100% negative adverb - are examined first. The ``partially negative'q adverbs hardly, scarcely, barely and rarely are then tested in the same way. The results show a great similarity with never (i.e. within the range of 87% - 97%), yet the research indicates their low distribution in general.
