Hlavním zaměřením práce je popis a líčení cizích národů, které srovnávám s popisy ve starší literatuře a v pramenech, ze kterých Jean de Mandeville čerpal. Dále pojednávám, do jaké míry se Mandevillův cestopis drží zaběhnutých schémat a v čem se od nich odlišuje. Práce vyzdvihuje, jaký postoj vypravěč k těmto exotickým národům zaujímá, co jej na nich fascinuje a co naopak kritizuje. V úvodních kapitolách nechybí základní informace k dílu i autorovi, stejně tak práce obsahuje kapitolu o vnímání cizího ve středověké literatuře.. -- Abstrakt: The thesis deals with the analysis of the travel book written by Jean de Mandeville in the translation of German medieval period. I focus on the description and interpretation of foreign nations, which I compare with the descriptions in older literary sources from which Jean de Mandeville was inspired. In the next chapter, I discuss the extent to which Mandeville's travelogue keeps to the schemas of this kind of literary species, and on the other hand what makes him different. In the thesis, the storyteller highlights the attitude towards the exotic nations, what fascinates him about them and, on the contrary, what is worthy of criticism. The introductory chapters also contain basic information about the travelogue and the author himself. The work also includes a chapter on the perception of an unknown in medieval literature.
