Práce se zabývá vývojem tvorby čínského režiséra Zhang Yimoua na příkladu dvou filmů: filmu Vyvěste červené lampiony a filmu Hrdina. Film Vyvěste červené lampiony (1991) spadá do režisérovy rané tvorby. Film Hrdina (2002) je jeden ze tří velkofilmů, které vznikly mezi léty 2002 až 2006. Práce je rozdělena do dvou kapitol. První obsahuje stručný obsah obou filmů. Druhá kapitola se zabývá srovnáním žánru, námětu, obsazení, vizuální stránky a hudby. Ve všech srovnávaných bodech se filmy značně liší. Film Vyvěste červené lampiony spadá do žánru drama. Je adaptací novely Ženy a konkubíny. Ve filmu hrají pouze čínští herci, v hlavní roli s Gong Li. Film Hrdina je historický bojový velkofilm, námět nevychází z literární předlohy, ale z čínské historie. V hlavních rolích se objeví čínští i hongkongští herci. V použití barev je patrný posun od symbolistického pojetí ve filmu Vyvěste červené lampiony k estetickému ve filmu Hrdina. Ve filmu Vyvěste červené lampiony převládá tradiční čínská hudba, v Hrdinovi západní orchestrální hudba.This thesis compares two movies, Raise the Red Lantern and Hero, by contemporary Chinese director Zhang Yimou. Raise the Red Lantern (1991) is from the early period of the director?s work. While Hero (2002) is one of the three historical movies Zhang directed between 2002 and 2006. Coming from different periods of Zhang?s career the differences between these films are substantial. The first chapter of this thesis consists of a brief summary of the plots of Raise the Red Lantern and Hero. The second chapter presents an analysis of the films. This analysis is divided into the five parts: Genre, Theme, Cast, Cinematography and Music. The first part, Genre, considers the films in the broader context of drama and wuxia. The section on theme focuses on the adaptation of novelette Wives and Concubines in the film Raise the Red Lantern and on the historical material of Hero. The cast of the movies is compared in the third part. The section on cinematography analyzes the use of colors and camera in the visual depiction of these stories. Finally, the last part, Music, compares the films? usage of traditional Chinese music and orchestral music.
