Záměrem této studie je postihnutí fonetických rysů jamajské angličtiny - tedy post-kreolniho dialektu karibského typu. Zaprvé popsat fonemický inventář této varianty, načrtnout nejpravděpodobnější samohláskový a souhláskový systém této mezolektální varianty a poté srovnat s britským standardem (RP). Dalším úkolem je výčet a popis fonetických jevů a znaků typických pro tento dialekt. Nejdůležitější je však porovnání a konfrontace tohoto teoretického základu se skutečným jazykem zastoupeným náhrávkou jamajské řeči. Všechny analýzy jsou založeny na nejběžnější variantě jamajské angličtiny, kterým je "vyšší mezolekt". Při popisu samohlaskového systému je vzat v potaz i historický vývoj jazyka a srovnání jeho jednotlivých fází. Většina dat a zdrojů užitých pro tuto studii je však synchronického typu - práce si neklade nároky na postižení historického vývoje jamajské angličtiny, hlavním záměrem teoretické části je postižení charakteristických rysů její moderní podoby. Praktická část práce se skládá z nahrávky jamajské angličtiny a transkripce a několika menších celků této nahrávky, které korespondují s fonetickými jevy zkoumanými v teoretické části. Těžištěm celé práce je porovnání teoretických znalostí se skutečností. Všechny užité nahrávky jsou volně šiřitelné a jejich distribuce nepodléhá právním omezením.The aim of this study is to describe the chart of vowels and consonants employed in modern Jamaican English, then to pin down its most prominent phonological rules and features and finally compare the theoretical description with a real speech recording. All analyses are based on the most frequent variety of English spoken in Jamaica, which is the ``high mesolect``. In my description of Jamaican vowels I go beyond a static synchronic view, I also consider a few comparative studies of different stages of Jamaican Creole historical development. Nevertheless the data sample and scholarly sources I consulted for this paper are mostly synchronic. The main goal of the theoretical part is to describe the most distinctive features of modern JE phonology, not recording its historical development. The practical part of the work is composed of the representative one-minute-long sample of JE with transcription attached, and shorter bits of the recording that correspond to phonological features analysed in the theoretical part of the thesis. The objective of the study is to confront the theoretical knowledge with the reality. The speech recordings were obtained freely for non-commercial use and can be distributed with no restriction. Other examined data (raggae and jungle music samples with JE in them) were used only for consideration and are not included in the sample medium attached to this study.
