Cílem této diplomové práce je zmapovat chápání pojmu distant reading; předně tak, jak ho definoval a aplikoval jeho autor, Franco Moretti, a dále pak jak jej reflektovali a užívali někteří další badatelé a badatelky. Jsme si vědomi širokého užití tohoto pojmu i velkého množství literárních vědců a vědkyň, kteří se mu věnují, a proto není v možnostech této práce poskytnout úplný přehled o vývoji a chápání metody distant reading. V první části práce se věnujeme stručné charakteristice oboru digital humanities, pod který zmíněná metoda spadá, načež následuje stěžejní část věnovaná teoretickým konceptům Franca Morettiho. Ve třetí části práce se věnujeme kritikám konceptu distant reading, a to jak v odborných vědeckých diskuzích, tak v ideologicky zaměřeném diskurzu. V poslední části poskytujeme prostor vybraným návaznostem na Morettiho metody. V celé práci se zabýváme především zahraničními reflexemi, neboť v českém prostředí tento přístup není dosud dostatečně zkoumán.The aim of this diploma thesis is to map the understanding of the concept of distant reading; firstly, as defined and applied by its author, Franco Moretti, and then as reflected and used by some other scholars. The author of the thesis is aware of the wide use of this concept and of the large number of literary scholars who study it. Therefore, this paper is not capable to provide the complete overview of development and understanding of distant reading method. The first part of this thesis focuses on the brief description of the field of digital humanities, under which previously mentioned method comes. That is followed by the key part devoted to the theoretical concepts of Franco Moretti. The third part of presented thesis focuses on the critiques of the concept of distant reading, both in professional academic discussions and in ideologically oriented discourse. The last part of the paper is concentrated on providing space to chosen authors and concepts following Moretti's methods. The whole thesis deals mainly with the foreign reflections, as this approach has not yet been sufficiently explored in the Czech academic discourse.
