Tématem této práce je zmapovat zkušenost pacientů s elektrokonvulzivní terapií a popsat vliv stigmatizace této terapie. Jde tedy o subjektivní výpovědi bývalých pacientek o jejich zkušenosti s EKT. Pro výzkum jsem zvolila kvalitativní metodologii. Respondenty jsem vybírala dle prostého záměrného výběru a dále metodou sněhové koule. Pro sběr dat byl využit polostrukturovaný rozhovor a k analýze dat byla zvolena Interpretativní fenomenologická analýza. Z té vyplynulo následující. Na zkušenost pacientů s EKT má velký vliv vztah s doktorem. Pokud je vztah důvěrný a pacientky svému lékaři/lékařce věří, upevňuje to spokojenost s celou terapií. Jako přínosné byla zjištěna možnost sdílení zkušeností mezi pacienty, kteří EKT již prošli a těmi, které to teprve čeká. Dojde k vzájemnému uklidnění a zároveň k větší důvěře v úspěšnost terapie. Sdílení zkušenosti také vede k osobnímu rozvoji samotných pacientů. Velký vliv na postoj k celé terapie má stále film Přelet nad kukaččím hnízdem. Jde také o jeden ze stigmatizačních zdrojů. Další velký vliv je nedostatek správných informací pro veřejnost, na základě čeho pak vznikají vůči této terapii předsudky. Pro ženy okolo třicátého roku života je významným tématem těhotenství. Ačkoliv těhotenství není pro absolvování elektrokonvulzivní terapie kontraindikací, ženy se bojí neplodnosti či potratu v případě podstoupení této terapie.The theme of this thesis is to map out the patient's experience with electroconvulsive therapy and depict the influence of the stigmatization of this therapy. It comprises of subjective statements by former patients regarding their experience with ECT. For the research, I choose qualitative methodology. The respondents were chosen by intended selection and the snowball method. I have used a semi-structured interview to collect the data and for the analysis, I chose the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. From the analysis emerged the following. The relationship between the doctor and patient highly affects the patient's experience with ECT. Close relationship awakens trust in the doctor and consolidates the satisfaction with the therapy. Sharing the authentic experience between patients who have undergone the therapy and those who await it, contributes to mutual reassurance. In addition, sharing the experience increases the faith in the successfulness of the therapy, which is also beneficial for the individual's personal growth. The movie "One flew over the cuckoo's nest" strongly influences the attitude towards the ECT and is considered as one of the sources of stigmatization. The lack of correct information available to the public may be the cause of prejudice towards electroconvulsions. Pregnancy is for the women who are around thirty years an important topic, especially if they are to undergo such a therapy, as this one. Even though the pregnancy is not a contraindication for electroconvulsive therapy, women fear infertility or abortion if they go through this therapy.
