Práce je zaměřena na narativní analýzu filmů Shanea Carrutha Vynález (2004) a Upstream Color (2013) s přihlédnutím k využití prvků filmového stylu a kategorizace těchto filmů v rámci komplexních narativů. V případě filmu Vynález je dílčím cílem práce zařazení do kontextu filmů s tematikou cestování v čase. Metodologicky práce vychází z narativní analýzy Davida Bordwella a prací Warrena Bucklanda a Charlese Ramíreze Berga týkajících se komplexních narativů. Výsledky analýzy ukazují, že autor v těchto filmech užívá rozdílné techniky prezentace komplexního narativu. V případě prvního filmu je užito primárně omezené komunikace informací divákovi v kombinaci se zdánlivě neomezenou narací a systematickou prací s časovými liniemi v rámci žánru filmů o cestování v čase. Ve snímku Upstream Color pak autor využívá primárně audiovizuálních prvků pro komunikaci s divákem společně konstrukcí síťového narativu.The thesis focuses on the narrative analysis of Primer (2004) and Upstream Color (2013) by Shane Carruth along with the use of film style and categorisation in the context of complex narratives. In the case of Primer, the objective also includes the categorisation within the time travel film genre. The methodology is based on David Bordwell´s narrative analysis and the work of Warren Buckland and Charles Ramírez Berg on the complex narratives. The results of the analysis show that the author uses different techniques in order to create complex narratives in his movies. In the case of the first film, the narrative depends on the restricted communication of information to the viewer along with seemingly unrestricted narration and systematic construction of timelines within the time travel movie genre. In Upstream Color, the author utilises primarily the audio-visual elements of film style to communicate the information to the viewer along with overall network narrative.
