Cieľom tejto práce je preskúmať, či je historičnosť diela Šógun od Jamesa Clavella dostatočná na priradenie k žánrovej forme historického románu alebo, či v diele prevládajú skôr prvky iných žánrových foriem, ktoré prvky historizmu zatláčajú do pozadia. Pri takomto rozbore ale nie je možné upustiť ani od rozboru samotného fikčného sveta a toho, ako je čitateľovi predstavený, ani od rozboru naratívu a poetiky diela ako takej, ktoré sú cennou súčasťou diela a ktorých vlastnosti prispievajú v celkovému dojmu vychádzajúcemu z románu.The main goal of this thesis was to analyze the fictional world of James Clavell's novel Sh?gun, a well known historical novel. While analyzing a historical novel, one logically assumes that the content is inspired by numerous historical facts. The problem that arises regarding this assumption lies in the facts themselves. Can we still classify this novel as historical, if the facts are incorrect or if the author changes them in favor of the content. This thesis is trying to determine, if the historicity of the novel reaches far enough for it to be called historical or if this is indeed incorrect and one should refer to it under a different genre. While analyzing a fictional world as it is, one must be attentive to all its parts, this analysis therefor includes a study of narrative, fictional communication, characters, fictional time and so on, which is very helpful for determining the actual genre of the novel.
