Tato práce rozpracovává tématiku amazonského domorodého kmene Piraha a lingvistického sporu týkajícího se chybějících specifických prvků v jazyce Piraha, obzvláště pak rekurze. Práce představuje osobu Daniela L. Everetta, který se dlouhodobě studiem jazyka Piraha zabývá, a popisuje charakteristické vlastnosti jazyka a kultury kmene na základě Everettových poznatků z let 1977-2008. Dále pak tato práce představuje jazykové univerzálie, které jazyk Piraha údajně popírá, a teorii jazykové relativismu, na které Everett staví svůj koncept IEP. V návaznosti na tento teoretický podklad poté práce představuje kritiku Everettovy práce z roku 2005 Cultural Constraints on Grammar and Cognition in Piraha: Another Look at the Design Features of Human Language a jeho spor s Noamem Chomským a jeho příznivci. Blíže práce přibližuje výtky Everettových oponentů, prezentuje kritiku Nevinse et al. a prezentuje další výzkumy v této oblasti včetně dokumentárního snímku The Grammar of Happiness.This thesis examines the topic of the Amazionian indigenous tribe Piraha and the linguistic dispute concerning the absence of specific elements in the language of Piraha, particularly recursion. The thesis introduces the personage of Daniel L. Everett who has been studying the language for a long time, it continunes to describe the characteristics of the language and the culture of the tribe based on Everett's data from 1977-2008. The thesis then goes on to describe language universals which the Pirah? language supposedly defies, and the linguistic relativity theory which helps Everett in his concept of IEP. Based on this theoretical background, the criticism of Everett's 2005 article Cultural Constraints on Grammar and Cognition in Piraha: Another Look at the Design Features of Human Language is introduced in connection to the dispute with Noam Chomsky and his supporters. This thesis closely examines the many criticisms of his oponents', work of Nevins et al. and presents futher research in this area, including The Grammar of Happiness documentary.
