Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou Nizozemského znakového jazyka a také znakového jazyka jako pojmu v celosvětovém měřítku. První část je věnována charakteristice osob se sluchovým postižením - jejich kultuře a způsobu života. Jsou zde také vysvětleny důležité pojmy, týkající se dělení osob se sluchovým postižením jak z medicínského tak z kulturního hlediska. Jsou zde tedy popsány rozdíly mezi "neslyšícími" a "nedoslýchavými", "prelingválně neslyšícími" a "postlingválně neslyšícími" a "Neslyšícími" a "neslyšícími". Druhá část práce se zabývá pojmy "jazyk" a "znakový jazyk" z obecného hlediska. Je zde popsán vývoj znakového jazyka v celosvětovém měřítku - tedy jaký status měly znakové jazyky ještě v polovině 20. století a jaký obrat nahlížení na znakové jazyky byl zaznamenán díky americkému lingvistovi Williamu Stokoe. Tato kapitola také objasňuje otázku zda je znakový jazyk univerzální, či ne. Třetí část práce popisuje samotný Nizozemský znakový jazyk. Je zde stručně popsána jeho historie, gramatika, rozdíly v užívání znaků, průzkum a proces standardizace - některé rysy jsou porovnávány s mluveným Nizozemským jazykem. Dále je zde popsán zvláštní druh Nizozemského znakového jazyka, který je používán především v komunikaci mezi slyšícími a neslyšícími. Cílem této práce je objasnit nejrozšířenější, často mylné informace o znakovém jazyce a jeho uživatelích, které jsou v povědomí většinové slyšící společnosti. Dále podat, zejména laikům, přehledný výklad o znakovém jazyce a jeho uživatelích z obecného hlediska a samozřejmě ucelený popis Nizozemského znakového jazyka se základními rozdíly a spojitostmi s Nizozemským jazykem mluveným.This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of the Dutch Sign Language and "sign language" as a worldwide term. The first chapter is devoted to the characteristics of people with hearing impairment - especially their culture and the way of live. There are also explained some terms concerning the division of people with hearing impairment from the cultural an medical viewpoint. Therefore are there described the differences between the terms "deaf" and "hard-of-hearing","prelingually deaf" and "postlingually deaf" and "Deaf" and "deaf". The second chapter deals with the terms "language" and "sign language" as worldwide terms. It describes the development of sign languages in the world - the general meaning about sign languages and how this meaning changed thanks to the American linguist William Stokoe. This chapter also clarifies the question whether sign language is universal, or not. The third chapter describes the Dutch Sign Language - its history, grammar, the differences in usage of signs, research and standardization process and some features are compared with the Dutch language. This chapter contains also the description of a special type of the Dutch Sign Language, which is used especially in communication between hearing and deaf people in the Netherlands. The aim of this thesis is to explain the most widespread (in many cases wrong) information about sign language and its users, to offer a well-arranged description of the term "sign language" and its users from the global viewpoint, especially to uninitiated people, and of course to make a description of the Dutch Sign Language and mention the basic differences and common features with the Dutch language.
