Práce přibližuje problematiku spojitosti verbality a vizuality obecně a dále v propojení se znakovými systémy. Na základě tohoto vztahu specifikuje jednoho z představitelů, jímž je komiks. Snaží se dospět k jednotnému vymezení komiksové formy a definovat ji z pohledu komplementárního vztahu obrazu a textu. Zároveň jsou připomenuty podobné souvislosti ikonického s verbálním, především ilustrace uměleckého textu a její odlišnosti od komiksu. Zmíněny jsou také jiné výrazové prostředky, kterých bývá využíváno při tvorbě komiksu. Je popsána funkčnost ?komiksového obrazu a slova? a vzájemná syntéza těchto dvou složek. Craiga Thompsona Pod dekou.Thesis outlines the problems of relation between verbality and visuality in general and in connection with the systems of signs. Based on it the thesis specifies one of the representatives of this relation, which is comics. The thesis tries to arrive at a coherent definition of forms of comics and define it in terms of the complementary relationship of image and text. A similar connection of iconic and verbal presentation is also recalled, especially artistic illustration of the text and its differences from the comics. There are also other means of expression, which are used in creating comics. The functionality of "comic image and word" and mutual fusion of these two components are described. Theoretical arguments are supported by the analysis of the "illustrated novel" ´Under a blanket´ by Craig Thompson.
