Cílem mé bakalářské práce je překlad úryvku novely The Uncommon Reader současného britského autora Alana Bennetta z angličtiny do češtiny a následná analýza některých překladatelských postupů. Nejprve nastíním obecné požadavky na současného překladatele (především umělecké prózy), v samotné analýze se budu okrajově zabývat obecnými problémy spojenými s jazykovou ekvivalencí a na konkrétních případech budu ilustrovat specifické rysy překladu dané povahou díla a autorovým stylem.The aim of my bachelor thesis is translation of an excerpt from a novella by A. Bennett The Uncommon Reader from the English into the Czech language and a further analysis of selected translation methods. Firstly I am going to outline general demands that contemporary translators (of belles-lettres) have to cope with; in the analysis itself I am going to pursue general problems related to the language equivalence and I am going to depict on factual cases the specific features of the translation given by the character of the piece of fiction and by the style of the author.
