Diplomovou práci tvoří dvě spolu související části. První z nich předkládá stručný přehled pojetí postavy Mojžíše od doby starověku do současnosti. Hlavním tématem práce je umělecká interpretace Mojžíše v novele Zákon (Das Gesetz) od Thomase Manna. Z tohoto důvodu teoretická část obsahuje i popis vzniku samotné novely, stejně jako nástin Mannova chápání umělce. Na základě několika popisů uměleckých postav z Mannova raného díla je v druhé části podrobně charakterizována postava Mannova Mojžíše. Cílem práce je nalézt podobnost obrazu umělce v autorově raném díle s uměleckou interpretací Mojžíše a začlenit ji do kontextu Mannova estetického programu.This thesis deals with the character Moses from Thomas Mann?s novella The Tables of the Law (with the original title Das Gesetz) from the artistic point of view. The theoretical part offers an overview of approaches to Moses from the ancient times to the present and introduces possible interpretations of the novella. Further, it depicts the context as well as the history of creation of the novella. A description of Thomas Mann?s conception of art and the artist and several characteristics of artist protagonists from Mann?s work close the theoretical section of the thesis. A detailed characterization of Moses with examples from the text itself constitutes the second part of the thesis. The aim is to detect common attributes between the artist Moses in the novella and the other artists as well as to establish references to Thomas Mann?s theory of artists in general.
