Hlavním cílem bakalářské diplomové práce s názvem Komentovaný překlad povídky Muriel Sparkové The Pawnbroker´s Wife je překlad této povídky, vydané v roce 1953. V druhé části práce se zabývám teoretickými otázkami překladu. V kapitole číslo tři je stručně načrtnuta biografie autorky Muriel Sparkové s důrazem na její literární kariéru. Ve čtvrté kapitole vymezuji na základě odborné literatury problém překládání umělecké prózy. Pátá kapitola, zabývající se komentářem k překládané povídce, je druhým stěžejním bodem práce. V komentáři se zabývám procesem vlastního překladu, stanovuji v něm hlavní okruhy překladatelských problémů, které jsem při překládání řešila a zdůvodňuji zvolená řešení. Těmito okruhy problémů jsou mluva postav, dále ironie a ambivalence a následně expresivita a věcnost. V závěrečné šesté kapitole rekapituluji práci a snažím se o vymezení dosažených výsledků. Na konec shrnuji celou práci v anglickém jazyce.The main objective of my Bachelor thesis called, Commented Translation of Muriel Spark´s Short Story The Pawnbroker´s Wife is the translation of this short story, which was published in 1953. The following part deals with theory of translation. The third chapter outlining a brief biography of Muriel Spark concentrates on her literary career. In the fourth chapter, the issues associated with translation of fiction are considered on the basis of scholarly literature. The fifth chapter dealing with commentary on the translated short story is the second pivotal part of this thesis. In this commentary I am concerned with the process of translation. The main problems of this short story translation are defined and chosen solutions to these problems are given reason to. These problems are: language spoken by characters, irony and ambivalence and expressive and pragmatic style. In the concluding chapter the thesis is recapitulated and the results are defined. In the final part, there is English summary.
