Práce simultánně sleduje vývoj anglické a francouzského jazyka od počátků přibližně do konce 13. století. Dílčí kapitoly se věnují vývoji jazyka v konkrétním časovém období ve snaze postihnout vlivy, kterými k vytváření a formování angličtiny a francouzštiny přispěla jednotlivá etnika, tj. Keltové, Germáni a Normané. Zároveň mapují funkci jazyka jako sociálního a kulturního fenoménu, jenž jednak podléhá vlivům z jazyků cizích a jednak reaguje na souběžný historický vývoj společnosti. Text práce se snaží na pozadí významných dějinných událostí a sociálního kontextu postihnout hlavní gramatické rysy angličtiny a francouzštiny v určitých vývojových etapách a současně najít paralely v lexiku obou jazyků. Součástí pojednání je i stručný náhled do etymologické problematiky v angličtině a francouzštině.The thesis studies simultaneously the development of the English and French languages from the beginnings to the late 13th century approximately. The individual chapters deal with the development of language in a particular time period in order to formulate the influence of ethnic groups - Celts, Germans and Normans - on the formation of English and French. At the same time they examine the function of the language as the social and cultural phenomenon which is affected by the foreign influences and, for another, reacts to the coincident development of the human society in terms of the history. The thesis attempts to represent the characteristic grammatical features of English and French in the particular stage of their development regarding the substantial historical event and the social context. Concurrently, it searches for the parallels in the vocabulary of both languages. The text also contains a brief overview of the English and French etymology.
