Bakalářská diplomová práce se zabývá kultem boha Poseidóna v antickém Řecku, přičemž se snaží objasnit, kdo Poseidóna uctíval a na jakých konkrétních místech. Dále se zaměřuje na problematiku etymologie Poseidónova jména, na jeho kultovní epiteta, v nichž se zrcadlí Poseidónova pole působnosti, na postavení Poseidóna v panteonu řeckých bohů, na nejznámější Poseidónova kultovní místa - zvláště svatyně, na slavnosti pořádané na počest Poseidóna a na jeho vyobrazení v sochařství, vázovém malířství a na mincích.The main subject of this thesis is the god called Poseidon and in particular about his cult. Poseidon played very important role at the time of ancient Greece, because for Greeks he was mainly the god of the sea, what was inseparable component of their life. However, Poseidon did not always figure as the god of the sea. Hence my thesis takes the step on the way to analyse the cult of Poseidon from the approach 1. who worshipped Poseidon and at which places in the mainland Greece, on the islands and elsewhere 2. progression of Poseidon´s field of action, which is also reverberating in his cult epithets. Thus the thesis evokes the first notion of Poseidon in ancient written sources - chiefly in Homer's poems, also concentrates on archaeological sources and tries to describe the most important Poseidon´s cult places as shrine, sacred area, etc. My thesis also deals with Poseidon´s festivals and sacrifices for him. It finally analyses Poseidon´s illustration in the sculpture, at the vase painting and on the coins. The sources for my thesis were primary written and archaeological sources and secondary literature. Primary written sources are not only poems of Homer, but mainly Pausanias, who wrote Description of Greece, which describes ancient Greece, among others also cult places of Poseidon and this is the reason why his work is indispensable for my thesis. The most important of secondary literature was the fourth piece of the book called The cults of the Greek states, which was written by Lewis Richard Farnell at 1907.
