Práce se snaží podat ucelený obraz o současném trendu odkládání mateřství do pozdějšího věku. Definuje současný trend, popisuje jeho odlišný vývoj v západní Evropě a České republice a představuje dva hlavní přístupy v České republice, které se jej snaží vysvětlit. Poukazuje na možný význam mateřství pro současnou ženu, jež sice narození svého dítěte odkládá, ale mateřství zůstává součástí jejího životního plánu. Práce se také zaměřuje na podmínky, které žena považuje za důležité pro načasování svého těhotenství. Stěžejní část práce je věnována výzkumu možných příčin odkládání mateřství do pozdějšího věku. Zjišťuje, zda je odkládání mateřství zapříčiněno proměnou hodnot mladých žen, nebo se spíše jedná o důsledek nepříznivých ekonomických podmínek.An attepmpt has been made in my thesis to give a coherent depiction of a contemporary trend of the postponement of motherhood to a later age. The thesis defines this contemporary trend and describes its different development in Western Europe and the Czech Republic. The thesis also presents two main approaches, which are trying to explain the postponement. It refers to a possible significance of motherhood for the modern woman, who postpones her childbirth. Nevertheless, the motherhood is still a part of her life plan. The thesis is also concerned with the conditions of motherhood timing, which the woman regards as important for the timing of her pregnancy. A crucial part of the thesis is devoted to the research, in which the possible causes of the motherhood postponement to a later age are being investigated. The aim of the research is to find out, whether the postponement is a result of a change in young women's values, or rather a consequence of unfavourable economic conditions.
