Tato magisterská diplomová práce se zaobírá ztvárněním mýtické bytosti jiangshi a jejím cílem je odpovědět na otázku "Jakým způsobem je mýtická bytost jiangshi ztvárněna v čínském folkloru, v literatuře z období dynastie Qing a v hongkongské kinematografii?". Práce nejdříve vymezuje vztah mezi folklorem a populární kulturou. Po představení jiangshi a zaobírání se původními zmínkami a souvisejícími přesvědčeními jsou uvedeni autoři Pu Songling, Yuan Mei, Ji Yun a jejich sbírky zmiňující nadpřirozeno Liaozhai zhiyi, Zi buyu a Yuewei caotang biji, ve kterých následuje hledání informací o vzniku jiangshi, jejím vzhledu, projevech, jakým způsobem se před ní chránit a jak ji zneškodnit. Po představení důležitého kontextu jsou tatáž specifika hledána i v hongkongských filmových snímcích podžánru založeného na příbězích o jiangshi. V období vzestupu podžánru a jeho popularity se jedná o přelomové snímky Encounters of the Spooky Kind (1980) a Mr. Vampire (1985). V období úpadku podžánru se jedná o snímky The Era of Vampires / Tsui Hark's Vampire Hunters (2002) a Rigor Mortis (2013). Popisovaný postup tak rovněž umožňuje pozorovat, do jaké míry se například filmové snímky inspirují ztvárněním jiangshi v původních zmínkách a v literatuře z období dynastie Qing.This master's thesis deals with the portrayal of the mythical creature jiangshi and aims to answer the question "How is the mythical creature jiangshi portrayed in Chinese folklore, Qing dynasty literature, and Hong Kong cinema?". First, the connection between folklore and popular culture is defined. After introducing jiangshi and focusing on early mentions and related beliefs, the thesis presents the authors Pu Songling, Yuan Mei, and Ji Yun with their collections discussing the supernatural Liaozhai zhiyi, Zi buyu, and Yuewei caotang biji, respectively. In these collections, information is sought about the origin of jiangshi, its appearance, behavior, how to protect yourself from this creature, and how to eliminate it. After presenting the important context, the same specifics are sought in the Hong Kong films of the subgenre based on the jiangshi stories. From the period of growth of the subgenre and its popularity, the groundbreaking films Encounters of the Spooky Kind (1980) and Mr. Vampire (1985) are analyzed. From the period of decline of the subgenre, the focus is on the films The Era of Vampires / Tsui Hark's Vampire Hunters (2002) and Rigor Mortis (2013). With this approach, it is possible to observe, for example, how films are influenced by the portrayal of jiangshi in early mentions and Qing dynasty literature.
