V rámci této práce bude představen německý autor E.T.A. Hoffmann, který publikoval sbírku příběhů Die Serapionsbrüder. Z této knižní sbírky jsou vybrána díla, která jsou poté použita k analýze. Na těchto vybraných dílech je následně zkoumáno, jestli je možné je označit jako novely a zdali obsahují prvky, které si pro tuto analýzu autorka práce předem stanovila. Dále pak v této práci je shrnut život samotného E.T.A. Hoffmanna. V neposlední řadě je v této práci uvedena i historie a vývoj samotného pojmu novela a jakým způsobem byl tento pojem používán pro literární díla v německy mluvících zemích.In this work, the German author E.T.A. Hoffmann, who published a collection of stories Die Serapionsbrüder, is being introduced. Works from this book collection are selected and used for analysis. The works mentioned are then examined, if it is possible to categorize them as novels and whether they contain elements, that the author of this thesis has determined in advance for this analysis. Furthermore, this work summarizes the life of E.T.A. Hoffmann. Last but not least, the history and the development of the term novel itself is presented in this work, as well as how this term was used in literary works in German-speaking countries.
