This thesis addresses chemical disarmament in Syria in contrast to the civil war. Thesis is anchored with emphasis on theories of international relations. The aim of the thesis was to find out how the disarmament of chemical weapons in Syria was conducted and what the role of the OPCW was. The thesis is written as an interpretive case study. The actions of the Assad regime are examined from the perspective of international relations theories and then compared with them. The thesis also examines other actors who played important roles in the conflict.
