Cílem této práce bylo zjistit, jak se systémové rozdíly mezi angličtinou a češtinou projeví při překladu beletristického díla do češtiny. Systémové rozdíly byly teoreticky popsány, poté byl zhodnocen jejich potenciál na změnu délky textu, následně byly stanoveny překladatelské strategie a proveden samotný překlad (textové vzorky pochází z díla Lady os the Shades). V analýze byly poté zkoumány výskyty zachování jazykových tendencí anglického jazyka v českých překladech a došlo k číselnému porovnání délek textů v počtu slov a znaků.This thesis concerns itself with the influence of language systemic differences between English and Czech in the translation of fiction into Czech. The systemic differences were put into their theoretical framework, then it was evaluated whether they have the potential to make the translation longer or shorter. After establishing the translation strategies, the translation itself was made (text samples are from the book Lady of the Shades). The focus of the analysis was on the presence of English tendencies in Czech texts and their influence on word and character count.
