Tato diplomová práce se zabývá vývojem a fungováním dohody o hospodářské spolupráci mezi západní Afrikou a Evropskou unií. Hlavním cílem práce bylo zjištění, zda dohoda o hospodářské spolupráci přispěla k rozvoji ekonomik států západní Afriky a jaké jsou hlavní důvody spolupráce těchto dvou oblastí. V této práci byla věnována pozornost obchodní spolupráci se zaměřením na export a import s přihlédnutím na oblast zemědělství, průmyslových výrobků, rybolovu a cestovního ruchu. Ke zkoumání byla použita teorie soft power od amerického politologa Josepha S. Nyeho, která předkládá možnosti rozšiřování vlivu EU bez použití hard power. Ve zkoumaném případě se jedná o obchodní část této teorie, která je aplikována na vztah mezi Unií a západní Afrikou. Na základě interpretativní případové studie, jsem zjistila minimální nárůst a zlepší vztahů s africkým regionem v reálném fungování obchodu, ale velký nárůst obchodních dohod, které vztahy upravují v teoretické rovině. V rámci zkoumání jsem došla k závěru, že dohoda o hospodářské spolupráci se v současné době nachází stále v procesu dojednávání z důvodu negociace Nigérie. Dohodu provází velké obavy ze ztráty suverenity v oblasti zemědělství a průmyslových výrobků. Dále je zde obava ze zaplavení afrického trhu "levným zbožím z Evropy". Výsledná dohoda se západní Afrikou bude kombinací kompromisů ohledně požadavků EU a západní Afriky, jež v důsledku povede k vyrovnání vztahů, kdy se již nebude jednat o vztah plátce a příjemce, ale bude vytvořeno rovnocenné partnerství.This diploma thesis deals with the development and functioning of the agreement on economic cooperation between West Africa and the European Union. The main goal of the diploma thesis was to determine whether the agreement on economic cooperation has contributed to the development of the economies of West African countries and what are the main reasons for cooperation between the two areas. In this diploma thesis, attention was paid to business cooperation with a focus on exports and imports, taking into account the field of agriculture, industrial products, fisheries and tourism. The theory of soft power from the American political scientist Joseph S. Nye was used for the research, which presents the possibilities of expanding the influence of the EU without the use of hard power. In the case under study, this is the business part of this theory, which is applied to the relationship between the Union and West Africa. Based on an interpretative case study, I found a minimal increase and improved relations with the African region in the real functioning of trade, but a large increase in the trade agreements that regulate relations on a theoretical level. In the course of my examination, I have concluded that the Economic Cooperation Agreement is currently still in the process of being negotiated due to the negotiation of Nigeria. The agreement is accompanied by strong concerns about the loss of sovereignty and industrial products. There is also the fear of flooding the African market with "cheap gods from Europe". The resulting agreement with West Africa will be a combination of compromises on the requirements of the EU and West Africa, which will in turn lead to a settlement of relations, where it will no longer be a payer-payer relationship, but an equal partnership will be established.
