Tématem této magisterské diplomové práce je překlad části knihy Mencius, konkrétně třetího svazku Kung-sun Čchou, z klasické čínštiny do češtiny. Teoretická část se zabývá rolí Mencia v konfuciánské tradici, významem komentářů a v oblasti translatologie diskutuje specifika překladu z klasické čínštiny, praktickou realizovatelnost převodu klasických textů, možné úrovně ekvivalence a také převod základní terminologie Menciova textu do češtiny. Praktickou část tvoří zestručněný podstročníkový a volný literární překlad s nezbytným poznámkovým aparátem. Komparativní část ilustruje některé překážky a výzvy, jimž překladatel z klasické čínštiny musí čelit při překladu do evropských jazyků, a podpírá vlastní řešení překladu vybraných pasáží. V závěru práce jsou nastíněny některé možné cesty budoucího výzkumu.This thesis deals with annotated translation of the part of the book Mencius, namely the third volume called Gongsun Chou. The book Mencius was written in Classical Chinese which had been used as a literary language of the Warring States period in the Ancient China. The theoretical part sets the framework for the process of translation, examines feasibility of the translation itself and deals with possible levels of equivalence. Moreover the basic terminology is discussed with respect to translation options as a first step in creating "the Mencius' dictionary". The practical part contains the annotated translation in two forms: 1) under-line translation and 2) loose literary translation. The comparative part illustrates various challenges and obstacles the translators are required to overcome during the process of translation from Classical Chinese to European languages based upon three versions of the three short paragraphs. In conclusion, some directions for future research are outlined.
