Předmětem práce je komparativní analýza filmu Ghost World (2001) a jeho stejnojmenné komiksové předlohy Daniela Clowese. V teoretické části práce poukazuje na nedostatek odborné literatury zaměřující se na neliterární adaptace a představuje širší kontext oboru adaptačních studií. S využitím metodologie literární adaptace Briana McFarlana práce zkoumá způsob, jakým tvůrci filmu ke komiksové látce přistoupili a jak ji adaptovali do filmové podoby. Práce po porovnání narativní struktury obou textů a analýze zvukových, kinematografických a vizuálních prvků filmu dochází k závěru, že se tvůrci v průběhu adaptace neřídili věrností vůči předloze. Naopak celá řada prvků včetně hlavní narativní linie je ve filmu odlišná, tvůrcům se ale podařilo zachovat atmosféru předlohy, čímž oslovili jak diváky, tak kritiku a zajistili tím kultovní statut filmu.The subject of this thesis is a comparative analysis of the movie Ghost World and its comic-book counterpart by Daniel Clowes. The thesis points out the lack of theoretical literature concerning non-literary adaptation and extends further context of adaptation studies in the theoretical part. Following Brian MacFarlane's methodology of literary adaptation, the analysis focuses on the way how filmmakers approached the original text and how they adapted it into a film form. Comparing the narrative structure of both texts and analysing audio, visual and cinematographic codes the analysis concludes that the authors were not driven by fidelity to the original source through the process of adaptation. Whole range of means in the film, including the main narrative line, completely differs from the comic book. However, the filmmakers succeeded in preserving the atmosphere of the comic-book which led to it being successful not only among viewers, but also among the critics and earned the movie a cult status.
