Předmětem této bakalářské práce je filmová adaptace Na cestě od režiséra Waltera Sallese a Big Sur od režiséra Michaela Polishe. Adaptovaným dílem jsou romány Na cestě a Big Sur od amerického spisovatele Jakca Kerouca. Cílem práce je intertextuální analýza těchto filmových adaptací s ohledem na změny, které v nich nastaly v rovině motivů, postav, děje a stylu. Jako analytická metoda byla zvolena adaptační teorie literární teoretičky Lindy Hutcheon a terminologie filmových teoretiků Davida Bordwella a Kristin Thompson. V obou adaptacích došlo k dílčím změnám v jejich reinterpretaci výchozích děl, kdy byla akcentována psychologie postav a emancipace ženských hrdinek, za upuštění od náboženské roviny. Tyhle změny korespondují se současným kulturně-společenským nastavením západního světa. Stylově se spontánní metodě Jacka Kerouaca více přiblížila adaptace Big Sur využívající volných asociací proudu vědomí. Adaptace Na cestě nedosáhla umělecké kvality knihy, neboť postrádá stylovou nápaditost a výpovědní autentičnost.The objects of this bachelor's thesis are film adaptations On the Road by Walter Salles and Big Sur by Michael Polish. These adaptations are based on novels of the same name by the American beat writer Jack Kerouac. The aim of this thesis was an intertextual analysis of the adaptations focusing on any changes or shifts in the field of their themes, characters, narrative and style. The analysis was structured according to the adaptation theory of the American literary theorist Linda Hutcheon. The terminology was taken from film theorists David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson. Both film adaptations emphasize the psychological aspects of the characters and, unlike the books, promote the emancipation of the women characters. They are also less interested in the religious motifs of the novels. All these changes are given by the current cultural and social paradigm; therefore, the reinterpretation of the novels differs in order to stay updated. The adaptation Big Sur uses a stream of consciousness style, thereby stays more loyal to the Kerouac's spontaneous style. However, the adaptation clings too much on its adapted work and does not gain full artistic autonomy. Adaptation On the Road does not fulfil the autonomy requirements either, since it lacks the novelty in style and confessional authenticity provided by the novel.
