Tato magisterská diplomová práce porovnává český výraz ať s jeho německými ekvivalenty. Text je rozdělen do tří hlavních kapitol. První shrnuje informace o výrazu ať v bohemistické literatuře a dále pojednává o možnostech jeho překladu do němčiny podle německých nebo srovnávacích gramatik. Druhá kapitola analyzuje korpus novinových článků, přičemž bylo zjišťováno, za jakých podmínek je možné výraz ať přeložit německými slovesy sollen, mögen a können. Úspěšně dosaženým cílem práce bylo sepsat pravidla pro překlad výrazu ať výše zmíněnými slovesy, a tím do jisté míry i doplnit chybějící údaje v gramatikách německého jazyka.This thesis explores the mutual correspondence between the Czech expression ať and its German equivalents. The thesis is divided into three chapters. Drawing on Czech Studies literature, the first chapter provides a theoretical overview of the expression ať. It also deals with German equivalents of ať found in German (comparative) grammar textbooks. The second chapter provides an analysis of newspaper articles retrieved from a corpus. In particular, it focuses on the conditions on which ať gets translated into German by means of the verbs sollen, mögen and können. The aim of the thesis is to lay out rules for how to translate ať by means of the aforementioned verbs, and thereby fill in the knowledge gaps that German grammar textbooks left unfilled.
