Diplomová práce se vztahuje k tématu ženských hereckých hvězd v irské kinematografii. Jejím těžištěm je případová studie Saoirse Ronan, jediné současné irské herečky, jež dosáhla statusu mezinárodní hvězdy. Hlavním cílem práce je analýza konstrukce hereččina hvězdného obrazu s důrazem na její irskost. Podle konceptu star studies Richarda Dyera jsou zohledněny jak filmové projekty Saoirse Ronan, tak propagační materiály, publicita a ohlasy kritiků a novinářů. Z provedené analýzy vyplývá, že irskost je významnou součástí hvězdného obrazu Ronan od počátku její kariéry. Nejvíce však byla zdůrazněna ve filmu Brooklyn a během jeho propagace. Dalším důležitým výsledkem je potvrzení paradoxu, že i přes minimální účast na irských filmech herečka zastává pozici tváře irské kinematografie, a to mimo jiné díky její aktivní účasti na akcích více či méně spojených s podporou irského filmového průmyslu. Diplomová práce se rovněž zabývá stereotypy spojenými s Irskem a jejich vlivem na konstrukci hvězdného obrazu. Zmíněna je také problematika výrazného rozdílu v počtu mužských a ženských hereckých hvězd pocházejících z Irska.This master's thesis is related to the topic of female acting stars in Irish cinema. In its core lies a case study of Saoirse Ronan, the only contemporary Irish actress to have achieved the status of an international star. The main goal of the thesis is the analysis of the construction of the actress's star image with an emphasis on her Irishness. The analysis of her films, promotion, publicity, and criticism and commentaries draws on the star theory of Richard Dyer. It shows that Irishness has been an important part of Ronan's career since the beginning. However, it was mostly emphasized in the film Brooklyn and during its promotion. Another important result is the confirmation of the paradox that despite her rare appearance in Irish films, the actress holds the position of the face of Irish cinema. This is partly thanks to her active participation in events more or less connected with the support of the Irish film industry. The thesis also deals with stereotypes connected with Ireland and their influence on star image construction. Furthermore, the issue of a striking difference between the numbers of male and female Irish acting stars is addressed.
