Dizertační práce je zaměřena na mediální reprezentaci zdravotního postižení ve filmu. Teoretická část práce se zabývá vymezením řešených problémů a základními teoretickými pojmy. Jako jsou například teorie mediální reprezentace či stěžejní teoretické koncepty oboru disability studies, a to v propojení se speciální pedagogikou. Práce přináší také analýzu současného stavu bádání, přehled kvantitativního a kvalitativního výzkumu týkajícího se dané problematiky. Praktická část disertační práce je zaměřena na tematickou analýzu filmů s tematikou zdravotního postižení, které byly vybrány podle předem stanovených kritérií v rámci iniciální kriteriální analýzy. V závěru práce je navržen model analýzy reprezentace mentální jinakosti ve filmu ve vztahu k teoretickým konceptům práce. Povaha práce je nutně interdisciplinární, odpovídá současným výzkumným tendencím. Vychází z teorie speciální pedagogiky, kulturálních studií, oboru disability studies a dotýká se také teorií mediálních a filmových studií. Svým zaměřením však primárně reflektuje zájem o společnost lidí se zdravotním postižením. Snaží se upozornit na bariéry a mechanismy, které určují status těchto lidí. Zároveň je cílen na společensko-kulturní aspekty, které determinují povahu vztahu majority lidí bez postižení k minoritě lidí s postižením. Záměrem práce je do českého prostředí vnést povědomí o možném vnímání "tělesné či mentální jinakosti" nejen jako popisného biologického faktu, ale i jako fenoménu, který je produktem společenských a kulturních praktik, jež jsou stvrzovány skrze proces konstrukce mediální (filmové) reprezentace. Tyto reprezentace napomáhají tvořit diskurz "disability" prostřednictvím svého specifického jazyka a znaků a mohou se tak podílet např. na produkci "řádu normality" či procesu stereotypizace, jež jsou odjakživa spojeny s vnímáním minority lidí s postižením.This dissertation is focused on media representation of disability in the film. Theoretical part of the thesis deals with the definition of problems and the underlying theoretical concepts, such as media representation theories and disability studies in connection with special education. It also brings out an analysis of the current state of research - a survey of quantitative and qualitative research with similar topics. The practical part of disertation is focused on thematic analysis of films with theme of disability, which were selected by predetermined criteria. There is a model for analysis of representation of mental otherness in film in relation to theoretical concepts mentioned in conclusion of the thesis. The dissertation is necessarily interdisciplinary. It follows the current trend. It originates from the theory of special education, cultural studies, the field of disability studies and also covers the theory of media and film studies. This research predominantly reflects interest about the community of people with a disability. It aspires to highlight the barriers and mechanisms that determine the status of these people, and it´s aimed on social aspects determining the nature of the relationship between the majority without disabilities and the minority with disabilities. I have intended to bring possible perceptions of physical or mental otherness to the awareness of Czech population; not only as a descriptive biological fact, but as a phenomenon that is the product of cultural practices which are affirmative via a process of social construction and media (film) representation. These representations help generate discourse of "disability" through its specific language and signs. Thereby it contributes to the process of stereotyping, which has always been associated with the perception of a minority of people with disability.
