Ve spojitosti s určitými kategoriemi televizní tvorby (quality TV) či konkrétními díly (např. Městečko Twin Peaks, Rodina Sopránů) se mluví a píše o tzv. filmovém stylu. Ačkoli se různí autoři snaží termín vysvětlit, je problematický. V prvé řadě simplifikuje filmový styl jako takový všechny jeho historické směry, žánry a mody ignoruje. Také tím vzniká hierarchizace mezi médii (film coby lepší či umělečtější než televize) ale i v televizní tvorbě jako takové. Ačkoli se o filmovém stylu v televizi psalo, jedná se o kapitoly v knihách či eseje, ne samostatné publikace. Domnívám se, že je zapotřebí uvažovat nad tím, co znamená filmový a televizní styl, jaké jsou jejich rozdíly a vzít výrazně v potaz technologický vývoj televize. Je třeba také polemizovat, nakolik je užití daného termínu vůbec užitečné pro pole televizních studií.Certain kinds of television programing (quality TV) or specific shows (e. g. Twin Peaks, The Sopranos) are spoken or written about in relation to cinematic style. Although various theoreticians tried to define the term, it remains problematic. First of all, it simplifies the cinematic styles with all its historical movements, genres and modes. Secondly, the term creates a hierarchy between medias (film being better or more art-like than television), but also within the television itself. Even though there are texts about cinematization of television, it is mainly essays or chapters, not publications on its own. I believe it is necessary to think about what it means to call style cinematic or televisual, to consider their differences and to consider a technological evolution of television. It is also important to debate how useful the term is for the field of television studies.
