Bakalářská práce se zabývá interpretací významné eseje o sebevraždě ("Of Suicide") od Davida Huma. První, historicko-přehledová část, se věnuje přístupům k sebevraždě v dějinách od antiky po novověk. Druhá, interpretační část, má za cíl prozkoumat vybrané interpretační eseje na téma "Of Suicide" napsané v posledních 45 letech a upozornit na jejich slabé a silné stránky. Práce klade důraz na zařazení Humovy eseje do kontextu a popisu argumentační strategie, kterou Hume využívá k odmítnutí námitek křesťanské teologie proti sebevraždě. Poslední kapitola informuje o aktuálnosti Humových argumentů, zejména v debatě o morální přijatelnosti eutanazie. Vzhledem k nedostatku české literatury k tématu autorka využívá převážně zdroje v anglickém jazyce.The bachelor thesis is focused on the interpretations of David Hume's famous essay "Of Suicide". The first part of the thesis is a historical overview of suicide from antiquity to modern history. The second, and interpretative part, aims to explore and highlight strengths and weaknesses of selected essays that comment on "Of Suicide" written in the last 45 years. The thesis places emphasis on the context of Hume's essay and tries to describe his strategy of argumentation, which rejects Christian theology's objections against suicide. The last chapter informs about the contribution that Hume's beliefs could bring to the current debates on moral acceptability of euthanasia. Due to the absence of Czech literature on this topic, the author uses predominantly sources in English language.
