Postavení neheterosexuálních charakterů v audiovizuálních dílech nebylo nikdy jednoduché a zobrazovaní takovýchto postav jako rodičů a také jako "průměrných" členů společnosti je poměrně novým fenoménem. Tato práce se zaměřuje na to, zda a případně jakými způsoby k tomuto "zprůměrňování" či "normalizování" dochází v televizních seriálech Modern Family a The New Normal, ve kterých takovéto postavy vystupují v hlavních rolích. Výsledkem je popis způsobů "normalizace" v daných seriálech. Práce k dosažení cíle využívá kvalitativní metodu interpretativního čtení, která umožňuje sledovat do hloubky konkrétní texty. Celkově vychází z teorií sociální a mediální konstrukce reality a zdůrazňuje tak možný normativní charakter televizního vysílání.Non-heterosexual characters have never had a particularly easy status in audiovisual works and depicting them as "average" members of society or placing them in a parental role is a rather recent phenomenon. This thesis explores whether and how this process of "normalisation" occurs in the Modern Family and The New Normal TV series, where characters like this are at the forefront of the plot. The result is a description of this process of "normalisation" in the aforementioned series. In order to get to it, this thesis uses a qualitative method of interpretative reading, that allows a deep examination of the texts. As a whole, this thesis is based on the theories of social and media construction of reality and therefore emphasizes the potential normative qualities of TV broadcasting.
