Diplomová práce se zabývá etymologií a proměnou významu termínu revoluce; sociologickým a historickým pohledem na fenomén revolucí. Stěžejní část je věnována postavě francouzského šlechtice Alexise de Tocquevilla a jeho knihy Demokracie v Americe. Zaměřuje se též na Tocquevillovo vnímání americké revoluce a charakterizuje americkou občanskou společnost.The beginning of the thesis is delaing with the general phenomenon of the revolutions, ethymology of the term "revolution", the change of the meaning of the term and sociological events. The main part of the thesis is about the french nobleman Alexis de Tocquevill, his origin, life, but mainly his works Democracy in America. Young Tocqueville visited United States in the 1830's. His book brings us the testimony about american society from a person, who did not come from a similar (democratic) environment, but thought of it as a new future of Europe. His testimony is more important due to it's serious scientific aproach, that includes citations, resources, etc. It's a very complex study, including many field from history, politology, law and sociology. The greatest thoughts of Tocquevill's works are the sovereignty of the people, freedom, and equality. These great ideas, that exissted even before the formation of the United States, spread into the whole society in the end.
