Rodičovská péče je pro většinu ptáků nezbytná k úspěšné produkci potomků. Péče o snůšku je nákladná a omezující, postihuje jedince i z hlediska budoucích hnízdních pokusů. Na inkubaci bylo dlouho nahlíženo jako na méně náročnou fázi hnízdění, nicméně je to část nákladná energeticky i časově a pro samici je přínosem, když obdrží od samce pomoc. V rámci této práce i) shrnuji známé informace zejména o samčích inkubačních strategiích, jejich nákladech a přínosech a ii) prezentuji dostupná data o inkubačních strategiích severoamerických pěvců. Na základě informací o sociálním systému a přispívání samce během inkubace definuji pět inkubačních strategií.Parental care is essential for successful offspring production for most birds. Caring for clutch is costly and limiting; it has impact on caring individuals also in terms of future breeding attempts. Incubation was considered to be a less demanding phase of breeding period for a long time, but in fact, this phase is energy- and time-consuming, and breeding female benefits from the help from her mate. In this thesis, i) known information on male incubation strategies, its costs and benefits are summarized and ii) available data on incubation strategies of the North American passerines are presented. According to the information on social system and male help during incubation, five incubation strategies are defined.
