Je lidské embryo osobou? Máme mu přiřknout nedotknutelné právo na život? Je embryo-destruktivní výzkum kmenových buněk morálně zavrženíhodná praxe? Má mít lidské embryo vůbec nějaký respekt? Tyto otázky budou řešeny v perspektivě morální diference mezi human being a human person. Přesněji diference mezi stanovisky ontologického personalismu a empirického funkcionalismu, tedy mezi názorem, podle kterého status osoby náleží lidským bytostem, protože jsou lidskými bytostmi, tedy ve všech stádiích jejich existence, a názorem, podle kterého lidské bytosti status osoby získávají, mohou o něj za svého života také přijít, nebo jej vůbec nemít. Cílem této práce bude argumentační podložení našeho současného zacházení s lidskými embryi. Práce se tak bude řadit k obhajobám interrupcí a embryonálního výzkumu.Is human embryo a person? Should it be granted an inviolable right to live? Is the embryo-destructive research of stem cells morally unacceptable? Should a human embryo be respected? These questions are discussed in the perspective of the moral difference between human being and human person, or precisely, the difference between ontological personalism and empirical functionalism statements. According to the former the status of a person belongs to human beings, because they are human beings, therefore in all the stages of their existence, and according to the latter which says that a human being can gain and lose the status of a person, or not have it at all. The aim of the thesis is to support the present treatment of human embryos. Therefore this thesis ranks among the defences of abortion and embryonic research.
