Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá gotickými prvky jediného románu Oscara Wildea Obraz Doriana Graye. Pozornost je věnována dějišti, které představuje viktoriánský Londýn. Práce se zaměřuje na postupný pád hlavního hrdiny, který zapříčinil zhoubný vliv jeho rádce. Práce zkoumá podobu nadpřirozena, vyskytujícího se v záhadném propojení mezi nevinným vzhledem a obrazem, který zobrazuje ďábelskou duši. Dalším cílem této práce je analyzovat homosexuální podtón díla. V neposlední řadě se práce zabývá rolí umění v daném románu.This thesis is to examine the Gothic traits in Oscar Wilde's only novel The Picture of Dorian Gray. It focuses on the analysis of the setting of Victorian London. An emphasis is put on the concept of a gradual downfall of the protagonist which is caused by corrupting influence of his initial choice of values and a curse he put on himself because of it. The work is also going to deal with the way Oscar Wilde handles supernatural element represented by a mysterious connection between an innocent appearance and a changing picture reflecting a sinister soul. Moreover, the attention is paid to the homosexual undertones. Last but not least, the thesis is to point out the role of art in the novel.
