Tématem prezentované diplomové práce je emoční inteligence (EI) a machiavelismus. Součástí práce je výzkumné šetření, jehož cílem je zjistit povahu vztahu mezi machiavelismem a EI, a jak je tento vztah ovlivňován pohlavím respondentů a jejich studijním zaměřením. Výzkum byl realizován na studentech konkurenčních (obory, pro které je charakteristické soupeřivé prostředí) a pomáhajících oborů. Výzkumný soubor byl vybrán metodou samovýběru a sněhové koule, celkem se zúčastnilo 154 respondentů. Emoční inteligence byla zjišťována prostřednictvím dotazníku SEIS a machiavelismus škálou MACH-IV. Mezi machiavelismem a EI byla zjištěna statisticky signifikantní negativní korelace. Z hlediska pohlaví nebyly v míře machiavelismu a emoční inteligence zjištěny statisticky signifikantní rozdíly. Míra EI a machiavelismu se však liší napříč obory. Studenti pomáhajících oborů dosahují vyššího skóre EI, než studenti konkurenčních oborů. Oproti tomu studenti konkurenčních oborů dosahují vyšší úrovně machiavelismu, než studenti oborů pomáhajících.This thesis is dealing with emotional intelligence (EI) and machiavellianism. Part of this thesis is also a research study that aims to explore the nature of the relationship between EI and machiavellianism, and how is this relationship influenced by respondents' sex and field of study. Subjects of this study were college students divided into two groups depending on their field of study. First group consists of students of helping professions, students of competitive fields form the second group. A research sample of 154 respondents was selected by using opportunity and snowball sampling. The level of EI was measured by Schutte emotional intelligence scale (SEIS) and machiavellianism was assessed by MACH-IV scale. Machiavellianism was negatively correlated with the level of EI. There was no difference in EI or machiavellianism depending on the participants sex. However, there was a difference in the level of EI and machiavellianism based on the field of study. Students of helping professions had higher level of EI, than students of competitive fields. On the other hand, students of competitive fields were higher in machiavellianism, than students of helping professions.
