Práce je zaměřena na analýzu způsobu, jakým české deníky Právo a MF Dnes konstruovaly mediální obraz operace Pilíř obrany, vojenské kampaně vedené Izraelskými obranými silami na palestinském území Pásma Gazy. Jejím hlavním cílem je identifikovat a analyzovat diskurzivní strategie užité oběma deníky a vzájemně je srovnat s ohledem na odlišnou politickou profilaci obou periodik. Články věnované operaci Pilíř obrany tedy byly analy-zovány za použití teoreticko-analytického rámce kritické diskurzivní analýzy v jejím socio-kulturním pojetí, které rozpracoval Norman Fairclough. Výsledky analýzy vedou k závěru, že ačkoli se mezi reprezentací izraelských a palestinských sociálních aktérů objevují zjevné diskrepance, nelze říci, že některý z deníků je jednoznačně zaujatý vůči Státu Izrael či palestinské politické reprezentaci. Rozdíly mezi diskurzivními strategiemi oběma deníků jsou pravděpodobně více motivované rozdílnou mírou pozornosti, kterou tyto deníky věnují prvkům human interest, nežli jejich politickou profilací.The work deals with the way how Czech daily newspapers Právo and MF Dnes portrayed Operation Pillar of Defense, a military campaign led by Israeli Defense Forces in the Pa-lestinian territory of the Gaza Strip. The main aim is to determine and analyze discoursive strategies used by both dailies and then compare them mutually with respect to different political leaning of each newpaper. Therefore, articles covering the Operation Pillar of De-fense were analyzed using the framework of the socio-cultural branch of critical discourse analysis, developed by Norman Fairclough. The results lead us to the conclusion that alt-hough there are considerable discrepancies in the ways Palestinian and Israeli social actors are represented, it cannot be said that the any of the newspapers is clearly biased towards the State of Israel or towards Palestinian political representation. Differences between dis-coursive strategies of each newspaper are arguably more shaped by their degree of the fo-cus on the human-interest elements than by their political alignment.
