Cílem diplomové práce je nový český překlad Lactantiova apologetického spisu De mortibus persecutorum. Jediný český dosud vydaný překlad J. N. F. Desoldy z roku 1872 je už dnes zastaralý, místy nepříliš srozumitelný a navíc postrádá obsáhlejší poznámkový aparát. Nový překlad se snaží zprostředkovat spis jazykem přístupným současnému čtenáři a je doplněn komentářem, vysvětlujícím určitá historická fakta a zvláštnosti zmiňované v textu. Celá práce je rozdělena do dvou částí. První tvoří kulturně-historická studie a druhá obsahuje samotný překlad díla De mortibus persecutorum s komentářem. V úvodní studii je vysvětleno postavení křesťanů od dob principátu až po vydání tzv. milánského ediktu v roce 313, dále je zde charakterizována křesťanská apologetická literatura, její hlavní znaky a nejdůležitější představitelé. Zvláštní kapitola je pak věnována základním otázkám, souvisejícím se spisem De mortibus persecutorum, jako je otázka autorství, datace a lokalizace vzniku díla, jeho hlavní myšlenky, pohled na jednotlivé císaře a celkový literární kontext.The aim of this dissertation is a new Czech translation of Lactantius' apologetic work De mortibus persecutorum. The only so far published translation of J.N.F. Desolda from 1872 is obsolete, in some places not very comprehensible and on top of that it lacks more extensive annotations. The new translation strives to present the work in a language more accessible to contemporary reader and it is supplemented with annotations explaining certain historical facts and peculiarities mentioned in the text. The whole work is divided in two parts. The first comprises of a cultural-historical study and the second includes the translation of De mortibus persecutorum itself with a commentary. The position of Christians since the times of principate till the issue of Edict of Milan in year 313 is explained in the opening study. Then the Christian apologetic literature is characterized including its main features and the most important representatives. A special chapter is dedicated to the elemental questions related to the work De mortibus persecutorum such as an issue of authorship, dating and the localisation of the inception of the work, its main ideas, the view on individual emperors and the general literary context.
