Cílem práce je popsat postavy povídkových souborů Jana Balabána především na základě jejich prezentace v textech. Zároveň se pokusíme postihnout postupy a principy prezentace postav fungující v jednotlivých souborech. Analýzám podrobíme postavy v souborech Středověk, Prázdniny, Možná že odcházíme a Jsme tady. V teoretických částech práce se pokusíme reflektovat proces vzniku postavy jako mentálního konstruktu čtenáře.The central aim of the thesis is to analyze the fiction characters in Jan Balabán´s short-story collections. The characters are examined mainly on the basis of their presentation in the text. Description of methods and principles of this presentation is attempted as well. The analysis is focused on following collections: Středověk (The Middle Ages), Prázdniny (Holiday), Možná že odcházíme (We may be leaving), Jsme tady (We are here). The theoretical part of the work concentrates on creation of a character as reader´s mental construction.
