Cílem předkládané diplomové práce je nový český překlad latinského apologetického spisu Octavius římského autora afrického původu Minucia Felika. Již existující překlad F. Stiebitze je zastaralý a ne vždy zcela srozumitelný, navíc v něm chybí některé pasáže latinského textu a postrádá obsáhlejší poznámkový aparát. Nový překlad se pokouší zprostředkovat jedno z prvních děl latinské apologetické literatury jazykem přístupným současnému čtenáři a zároveň je doplněn poznámkovým aparátem, který by měl vysvětlit některé aspekty římského náboženského života a reálií, na něž autor spisu naráží, a umožnit tak co nejlepší pochopení textu. K překladu je připojena úvodní studie zasvěcující čtenáře do kontextu latinské apologetické literatury a přibližující základní fakta o životě a díle jednoho z prvních latinsky píšících apologetů, Minucia Felika. V literárně historickém rozboru překládaného spisu je poukázáno na některé dodnes nevyjasněné otázky spojené s tímto dílem, jako jsou jeho datace a lokace, jeho literární struktura, využití konvencí filosofického dialogu a rozložení rolí postav, které v dialogu vystupují. Hlavní část předkládané práce pak tvoří vlastní překlad s poznámkovým aparátem.The aim of this diploma thesis is a new Czech translation of the Latin apologetic work Octavius which was written by Roman author of African origin Minucius Felix. Already existing translation of F.Stiebitz is outdated and not always entirely clear. Moreover, it lacks some passages of the Latin text and more extensive footnotes. The new translation attempts to convey one of the first works of the Latin apologetic literature in language more comprehensible for the contemporary reader and at the same time the text is supplemented with footnotes explaining some aspects of the Roman religious life and facts, mentioned by the author of the work. It should also enable the best possible understanding of the text. The introductory study is added to the translation. It initiates the reader into the context of the Latin apologetic literature and gives the reader an idea of the basic facts about life and work of one of the first apologists writing in Latin, Minucius Felix. In the literary and historical analysis of the translated work there are highlighted some still unclear issues which are associated with this work, such as its dating and location, its literary structure, the use of conventions of philosophical dialogue and the distribution of roles of the characters appearing in the dialogue. The main part of the thesis comprises an own translation with footnotes.
