Magisterská diplomová práce pojednává o životě a díle hudebního historika, teoretika a pedagoga prof. PhDr. Karel Steinmetze, CSc. Sleduje průběh jeho života a působení ve významných kulturních i vzdělávacích institucích v Brně, v Ostravě, Praze i Olomouci. Seznamuje se Steinmetzovou činností kritickou, publicistickou, ale také organizátorskou. Pozornost je také věnována jeho práci hudebněvědecké a to v oblasti janáčkovského bádání, hudební teorie, hudební regionalistiky a lexikografie. Hlavní text práce je doplněn poslední kapitolou Vzpomínky a názory kolegů a přátel, do které přispělo krátkými vstupy několik významných osobností spjatých s hudbou, Steinmetzových kolegů i přátel. V závěru práce se její autorka pokouší o zhodnocení přínosu Karla Steinmetze pro českou muzikologii. Práce obsahuje množství obrazových i textových příloh, v nichž nechybí ani soupis Steinmetzových nejvýznamnějších publikací.Master Diploma thesis describes the life and work of prof. PhDr. Karel Steinmetz, CSc. music historian, music historian, theorist and teacher. The work follows the Steimetz´s life course, the main focus is given on his professional growth and activities in major cultural institutions in Brno, Ostrava, Prague and Olomouc. This Diploma thesis introduces to Steinmetz´s activities as a critic, a journalist but also as an organizer. The thesis mainly focuses on the Steinmetz´s scientific - musical activity in areas of musíc theory, Janacek´s research, regional studies and musical lexicography. There is also a description of his most important publications. The main text is supplemented by the last chapter Memories and opinions of colleagues and friends. This chapter contains short entries of several prominent personalities associated with music. Many of them are not only Steinmetz colleagues but also friends. The complete thesis conclusion discusses the contribution of Charles Steinmetz to Czech musicology. The work contains a large number of annexes. There can be found for example Steinmetz´s bibliography, arranged text summarizing the key events in his life to several points in the annexes. In the image attachments we can get acquainted with his most important critics and reviews, and there are also examples of his work as a composer and a wide amount of photographs.
