Předmětem disertace je typická persona, která se již od šedesátých let 20. století objevuje v díle amerického komika, herce, režiséra, spisovatele a dramatika Woodyho Allena. Allen v šedesátých letech vstoupil do povědomí veřejnosti jako originální sólový komik, jehož nezaměnitelný humor z něj brzy učinil celebritu. Později se tento všestranný umělec začal věnovat také literatuře a filmu a jeho tvorba, kterou veřejnost do značné míry vnímá jako autobiografickou, i osobní život již více než čtyřicet let vzbuzují značnou kontroverzi nejen v USA Tato disertační práce představuje okolnosti, které Woodyho Allena formovaly, jednotlivé žánry jeho tvorby i filmové a literární vlivy. Pozornost je věnována také roli židovského humoru a tradičním postavám nešiků a smolařů. Hlavní část práce se zabývá jednotlivými stěžejními rysy Allenovy persony a otázkami, na něž se protagonisté děl tohoto autora stále znovu pokoušejí nalézt odpovědi. Tato část práce se zaměřuje na tři hlavní oblasti Allenovy tvorby, tedy jevištní skeče ze šedesátých let, povídky a divadelní hry a především filmy natočené od druhé poloviny šedesátých let až do konce 20. století. Allenova typická persona je prezentována jako židovský muž středního věku, který zasvětil život hledání ideální ženy a lásky a snaží se především prostřednictvím svých milostných vztahů a umělecké tvorby čelit strachu z vlastní smrtelnosti. Typický protagonista Allenových děl se také pokouší vyrovnat se svým židovským původem a řeší svůj mnohdy složitý vztah k Bohu. Dalšími z typických rysů Allenovy persony jsou její odpor k přehnanému či falešnému intelektuálství a potřeba uniknout před realitou všedního dne do alternativního světa snů a představ. V neposlední řadě je typický protagonista Allenových děl definován jako smolař, který bojuje s nástrahami života a své problémy si mnohdy způsobuje sám svým chováním a myšlením.This dissertation deals with the typical persona who has appeared in the work of the American comedian, actor, director, writer and dramatist Woody Allen since the 1960s. In the 60s, Allen caught the attention of the public as an original stand-up comedian whose unmistakable humor soon turned him into a celebrity. Later this versatile artist got attracted by literature and filmmaking and his work, which is to a large extent considered to be autobiographical by the public, as well as his personal life have caused controversy not only in the USA for more than forty years. The dissertation presents the environment which has shaped Woody Allen, the individual genres represented in his work as well as the main literary and film influences. Attention is also paid to the role of Jewish humor and the traditional comic character of a loser. The main part of the thesis deals with the most significant features of the Allen persona, and the questions the protagonists of Allen?s works have tried to find answers to. This part of the thesis focuses on three main spheres of Allen?s work ? stand-up routines from the 1960s, short stories and theatrical plays, nd particularly on movies from the late 1960s till the of the 20th century. The typical Allen persona is portrayed as a middle-aged Jewish man who has dedicated his life to searching for an ideal partner and love and who attempts to face his fear of dying by means of love affairs and art. The typical protagonist of Allen?s works also strives to come to terms with his Jewishness and to resolve his often very complicated attitude to God. Other typical features of the Allen persona are his dislike for exaggerated or false intellectualism and the need to escape from everyday reality into the alternative world of dreams and fantasies. Last but not least, typical protagonists of Allen?s works are perceived as losers who have to overcome the obstacles posed by everyday life and who tend to cause their problems themselves by the way they act and think.
