Práce pojednává o významu sociálních vztahů v seniorském věku. První kapitola vymezuje stáří, změny osobnosti stárnoucího jedince, strategie ke zvládání stáří a negativní pohled na stáří, včetně ageismu. Druhá kapitola popisuje sociální změny, které souvisí s odchodem do penze a s novou rolí seniora. Definuje také kategorii kvality života. Obsahem třetí kapitoly jsou psychosociální potřeby ve stáří a problematika osamělosti, která je častým důsledkem neuspokojené potřeby sociálních kontaktů. Čtvrtá kapitola se věnuje jednotlivým typům sociálních vazeb, tedy významu rodiny, roli partnera a dospělých dětí, prarodičovství, přátelství a také vztahům v instituci. Obsahem poslední, páté kapitoly, je kvalitativní výzkumné šetření, které zjišťovalo nejdůležitější zdroje sociální opory u vybraných respondentů a význam fungujících vztahů na celkovou spokojenost ve stáří. Výsledky výzkumného šetření jsou uvedeny v závěrečné diskuzi.The thesis discusses the importance of social relationships in old age. The first chapter defines the age, the main changes of the aging personality, individual strategies of coping with aging and also a negative view of old age, including ageism. The second chapter describes main social changes related to retirement and a new senior role. It also defines the category of quality of life. The third chapter is devoted to psycho-social needs and to the problem of loneliness in old age, which is often the result of unsatisfied need of social contacts. The fourth chapter deals with various types of social ties, thus the importance of family, the role of a partner and adult children, grandparenthood, friendships and also relationships in the institution. The empirical part is the content of the last chapter. The qualitative research surveyed the most relevant sources of social support for the selected respondents and the importance of working relationships on overall satisfaction in old age. The results of the research are presented in the final discussion.
